Gluten and Dairy Free Fish Pie

The weather in England is unpredictable, so on the 1st June when it was meant to be the start of the British summer, of course it rained! So some warm comfort food was definitely on the cards!

Trying to make pies with allergies and intolerance's can be difficult, but you learn to adapt and find appropriate substitutes. But I found that this Fish Pie recipe was super easy and was so tasty!

Fish pie is mainly Gluten Free anyway, its just the Dairy that is the main difference. Because the sauce is milk based that is the main change. It is important to use an unsweetened milk, otherwise the sauce is far too sweet. I would recommend either an unsweetened Soya Milk or Lactofree Milk.

  • 2 Medium Potatoes.

  • 250ml Dairy Free Milk

  • Mixture of Smoked Fish - I used Salmon, Haddock & Prawns.

  • Dairy Free Cheese - Lactofree Hard Cheese is definitely the best.

  • Dairy Free Butter.

  • Chives.

  1. Place fish in a tray and cover with the milk, add chives.

  2. Put in oven for 30 minutes.

  3. Whilst the fish is cooking, peel potatoes, cut them up into small pieces and cook in a pan of boiling water until soft.

  4. Once softened, mash the potatoes up with the butter and a little bit of the grated cheese.

  5. Take the fish out of the oven and pour the mixture into a casserole dish.

  6. Place the mash on top and pile the cheese on.

  7. Put in the oven for 20 minutes until the cheese is golden brown and gooey!

  8. Serve and enjoy!
